Nigeria Midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has confirmed his readiness to feature in any role for the Super Eagles, emphasizing that his flexibility serves as an important strength for the squad during the current Africa Cup of Nations. PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
A 24-year-old player, who has played both as an attacking midfielder and a central midfielder for the Italian club Lazio, stated to journalists that his flexibility enables him to play anywhere the manager needs him.
"I believe I remain adaptable for the team," Dele-Bashiru stated upon being questioned about the significance of his adaptability by Austin Okon-Akpan.
Lately, I've been spending a lot of time on the flank, but during the match against Uganda, I returned to central midfield. Therefore, yes, I believe that as an adaptable player, I can perform in any position the coach assigns me.
He also maintained that collaborating with various groups of teammates during matches had not influenced his level of play.
"Absolutely not. We've trained together for quite some time, so regardless of which eleven players the coach selects, we'll be prepared," he said.
Dele-Bashiru emphasized the team's rising unity under head coach Eric Chelle, pointing out that the players are becoming more accustomed to his approach to the game.
"we have spent some time with this coach now. we're beginning to truly come together as a team, grasp his approach to playing, and i believe we've been performing well at this afcon," he stated.
In the competition, Dele-Bashiru has featured twice, with one start and a cumulative playtime of 121 minutes.
He provided one assist, recorded an average of 43.5 ball contacts each match, successfully completed 92% of his passes, and generated one significant opportunity.
Since joining Lazio in the summer of 2024, Dele-Bashiru has featured primarily on the left flank of the midfield and attack, but his performances in Morocco underscore his flexibility and readiness to support Nigeria wherever needed as the team prepares for the knockout stages.
